Sunny Saturday in Most delivers records, battles and a powerful tribute to Kamil Holán. WorldSBK invites fans to Sunday’s finale
The second day of the WorldSBK Czech Round at Autodrom Most delivered exactly what fans expect from world-class superbike racing: thrilling races, dramatic battles right down to the closing laps, strong Czech moments and emotions beyond the track. While changeable weather affected many parts of the country, Most enjoyed a sunny Saturday. According to the forecast, Sunday should be even slightly warmer, with temperatures potentially reaching up to 18 degrees Celsius.
The premier WorldSBK class once again confirmed Nicolò Bulega’s dominance this season. The Aruba.it Racing – Ducati rider first set a new all-time lap record at the circuit in Superpole with a time of 1:29.616, before going on to win the opening race of the weekend. He was involved in an exciting duel with his teammate Iker Lecuona, who led for several laps, but Bulega reclaimed first place in the closing stages and won by 1.330 seconds. Yari Montella, riding for Barni Spark Racing Team Ducati, finished third.
In WorldSSP, Valentin Debise on the ZXMOTO 820RR took centre stage. The French rider won ahead of Can Öncü and Albert Arenas, while also setting a new race lap record for the category on the final lap with a time of 1:34.336. Czech fans had reason to celebrate Ondřej Vostatek, who fought through a demanding race to finish 14th and score points. Oliver König completed the race in 20th position.
The new World Sportbike class, which has replaced the former WorldSSP300 category in the calendar, produced one of the closest finishes of Saturday. Matteo Vannucci claimed victory by just 0.059 seconds ahead of Jeffrey Buis, with championship leader David Salvador finishing third. Czech rider Troy Sovička endured a difficult Saturday after technical issues and then crashed early in the race. However, he managed to pick up the bike and was classified in 29th place. Štěpán Zuda did not take part in Saturday’s programme following his Friday crash and a hand injury.
The President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, once again did not miss the superbike action in Most. He arrived at the venue by motorcycle as an unofficial visitor and enjoyed the race day among the fans. He not only watched the programme, but also took photographs, and at the end of Saturday’s premier WorldSBK race he waved the chequered flag as the riders crossed the finish line.
Saturday’s programme also carried a strong human dimension. Autodrom Most paid tribute to Kamil Holán, an exceptional racer, instructor and prominent figure of the Czech motorcycle scene. The commemorative moment was prepared in agreement with his family. At their request, a minute of applause was held instead of a minute’s silence, remembering Kamil as people knew him – a person associated with energy, the joy of motorcycles and inspiration for others. After the applause, a spontaneous moment of silence followed, during which fans, riders and members of the paddock paid a quiet tribute to Kamil.
“Saturday showed why WorldSBK has such a strong atmosphere in Most. Fans saw top-level racing, Czech riders on track, record-breaking performances and a moment that went beyond sport itself. We deeply appreciate the dignified way in which the entire venue joined the tribute to Kamil Holán. We are also pleased that President Petr Pavel found his way to Most again, as he is well known for his close connection to motorcycles. And most importantly, I would like to invite all fans to Sunday. The second part of the weekend awaits us, with more races in the main categories, a rich programme and, according to the forecast, even more pleasant weather. Anyone considering coming for the final day definitely has every reason to do so,” says Josef Zajíček, CEO of Autodrom Most and member of the organising association AMK Most.
Sunday at Autodrom Most will bring the climax of the entire race weekend. Fans can look forward to the Superpole Race and the second main WorldSBK race, further WorldSSP and World Sportbike races, and the continuation of the accompanying programme, including paddock activities, which spectators can access with a standard ticket. Tickets remain available online via the Autodrom Most website as well as on site.
